conundrum
: YOU HAVE BEEN PROGRAMMED
: what is the information recorded in you?
: why is it there?

: when are you going to die?
: how do you feel?

presumption
: arbitrary physical laws

But what of the program installed in me?
Can I deny this stake with a mere claim of uncertainty?

A veil has been cast over all I see,

SimRacingDrivers League - Season 1 Standings

Driver's Championship

Constructor's Championship

Congrats to Sexy Brigadeiro, SRD Season 1 Driver's Champion! Congrats to Blackfox and Arek, SRD Season 1 Team Champions!

A tough season for me, I didn't even finish among the top ten in the final standings. Also, my first DNF in over a year (at Silverstone), and this was due to disconnection. During the first few races I was closer to the pace of the fast guys, but it wasn't long before they figured out the car and I was back to my customary place at the tail end of the grid. There was also a similar pattern for the races; I would gain some positions in the frenetic early laps, but as the race settled down I would find myself being overtaken by the ones I had passed previously. Just couldn't find any rhythm at all this series and I'm glad we are switching mods next year.

he's been using brand xsssssss

New season, new series... gonna run the Footwork - Mugen Honda over at SRD League (a new division under rFR). With any luck, there will be no manipulation of results here. Yes, yes I'm still a bit upset over losing my podium and 9th place in the standings over at rFR last season. Can't help but wonder if the race would have still been DQed if Tom or Sven had won. Haha, first they take away your podium, then they show off their trophies and championships to rub your nose in it.

Anyway, this 1992 mod has been a tough drive so far. I'm about 2-3 seconds slower per lap than the fast guys. The car is twitchy, nervous, unstable over bumps and kerbs, and the tail just wants to come around in some corners. I've tried every setup trick I know to keep the back planted, but a heavy stab at the throttle will still make it spin. Gotta be much lighter on my feet, and the flickering throttle problem doesn't help at all. I should just buy a new wheel and pedals set, really.

Still, I have good feelings about this new series. Most of the other drivers are dividing their time with the main rFR Grand Prix and rFR Porsche, while I am concentrating on this classic 1992 mod. It could turn out to be an advantage come race time and over the course of the season.

Avalon

My first podium finish with rFR League and the race doesn't count. Not enough guys present to make the event. Rulebook says so, and I have no fight. I would have moved up the standings to ninth place if the result was official. Oh, well. Not my fault only seven drivers lined up. But still, I will remember this race as one of my betters. Thank You Racing Gods for this chance.

There is one more race before the season ends and if I work for it, maybe I can still get ninth place overall. If at least ten guys show up for the event. I try to care but I fail. Nowadays, this is all I got.

drug user-friendly

The Ghost of Sebring whispers in my ear, "Get the point and you will be top ten." What a chance it is, because with three races to go, the dabblers and dilettantes have given up on this season. Recently, the grid has been smaller and so the chance to score points is greater. I hope to finish this season in 9th place, a far cry from the meager 4 points I scored all of last season.

I discovered a huge problem with my rig. The gas pedal flickers; I guess the hardware is fighting the good fight. Well, it has been more than 5 years since my last controller upgrade. Right now, I just max out the software sensitivity to compensate for the error. I lose some fine throttle control, but at least I'm sure I'm flat-out on the high speed sections.

another arbitrary amendment

An Idea has no Perfect Enemy
only the Spectre of Testability

Think ahead
even just a few seconds
for one of your powers is
to see the Future

and the FoF state comes

that Feeling of Power
when a Thought confirms
when a Prediction holds True
when a Happenstance makes Sense

but Beware the Agents of Deterioration

Light

Prophecy

you cannot help me
my insanity is of such surpassing excellence
it threatens God

and so I sing
a song of Thanksgiving
to the Gods of Racing

A Driver's Prayer

once was mine now undone

And it's back to Monaco for Round 4 of Season #8 over at rFR World F1 League. I have done some practice laps and I'm about 4 seconds behind per lap so far. I think I can find maybe 2 seconds more, if I weren't so afraid of the walls. Monaco is usually a race of attrition so as long as I can bring the car home there is a chance to score points.

The good news is, I was able to open my account at the previous race in Jacarepagua, Brazil. Last season I didn't score until Round 7, so things are much better already. The grid is smaller this season, with some regular drivers sitting it out because of dissatisfaction with the FSOne 2008 mod. That means more chances for us backmarkers and grid-fillers and I'm expecting a higher final standing and points tally compared to last year.

The bad news is, my teammate (and previous race winner) Crystakke is one of the drivers who seem to have had trouble coming to grips with the current mod. I was sort of counting on him for some setups but he hardly practices and has only shown up for one race. And even there I was clearly faster and better prepared than he was.

Anyway, there are a few more days to prepare for this toughest of races, Monaco, the so-called "Jewel of the F1 Crown". And there is still a long season and a lot of racing ahead. If I improve, I think I can finish this season in the top ten.

Thought Knocks

On April Fools Day, Super Aguri Number One Driver ...Crystakke has declared himself OUT of the race in Shanghai. Welcome to Round 1 of Season #8 over at rFactor RACERS WORLD FORMULA 1 LEAGUE, and I guess it is up to me to try and score points for our team. I am still around 3 seconds a lap behind the fast guys, unfortunately. A regrettable pace, but at least I am comfortable with the track layout. You know what they say; repetition is the mother of skill, and I have done many laps on this circuit before.

Seriously, my only chance to score points is if this event becomes a race of attrition. Unlikely, as this FS2008 mod has been used by this league before, and league veterans will be familiar with the car and maybe even have some setups saved. For me, I think it is not the car setup but something fundamentally slow in my cornering style. I resist looking at the telemetry and keep trying to solve the problem using the so-called "seat of the pants" feeling. I need better feedback and some instruction.

And I gotta detox, and lose weight, and get fit, and all that shit. I have been here before so I know how it goes: Fast and you will become faster. Empty your mind and focus on the task at hand. A place on the grid is a chance to win. To finish first, first you must finish. See the checkered flag. Bring the car home. Only this must be the goal for all you also-rans, backmarkers, and losers.

I remember when I first tried simulation racing. I couldn't even complete a lap of a circuit without spinning or crashing. My prior video racing experiences was with arcade machines and gaming consoles. I knew nothing about the sublime technique required to be able to win races using simulation cars. Even now, I don't think I would beat any AI at their 100% setting. Maybe someday, I will be quicker.

rFR World F1 League Season #8 Preview

Getting ready for rFR Season 8. We will be using FSOne2008 mod. 30 drivers are signed up and attendance will be high during the opening races, so it will be tough to score points. Maybe later in the season, with more experience with the car I can finish a race in the top ten.  Looks to be a fight between Ferrari, Mclaren, and Renault for the Team Championship. BMW and Toyota are also strong teams. Jaguar and Super Aguri both have top ten drivers in one of their cars. New drivers coming in and returning drivers coming back, so it will be a mixup in the midfield and with us backmarkers.

Teams and drivers of Season 8 (sorted by driver number):

BMW

#19 - Arek
#44 - Wez

Ferrari

#7 - Sven

rFR Season 8 will feature 18 races. Watch out for Jacarepagua 1988, I don't think I've ever raced there before. And later in the season it's Sebring. I have run there before in the GTs and LMPs. I wonder what it is like to race F1 cars there. Might be too bumpy. Some old classics to look forward to: Indy, Imola, and Magny Cours. The dreaded Monaco and the favorite A1 Ring are also scheduled.

A new season and everybody is back to zero points. After two seasons in this league I think I have established myself as a "the fastest of the slow guys" and an occasional points scorer. Right now in testing, I'm about 3 seconds a lap behind the leaders. I think I can find maybe 1 more second. With any luck, my teammate will lend me some of his magical setups. After the troubles of the previous season, I can only improve.
